Faith, Food, & Fitness

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

How we living people of God? We’ve arrived! I Pray you’re ready! We have made it to the first “Faith, Food, & Fitness” series blog. I have been preparing for this series for several months now. As Yahweh began transforming me earlier last year he gave me the word, Intentional. He told me that He wanted me to be Intentional about myself, my mind, body, and spirit. Nearly a year later we finally have what is, “Faith, Food, & Fitness.” This is a series that will have a permanent position here at “Mindful of Me Moments” for the duration of 2019. Every Friday you can look forward to a variation of tips, recipes, workouts, encouragement, and scriptural references that will assist you in being more mindful of your spiritual, mental, and physical health. My prayer is that this series will aid in transforming the way we think and inspires us to take better care of the bodies God has lent us. As a disclaimer, I am not a nutritionist or personal trainer. I am merely a Child of God who hears from the Holy Spirit and does her research. Now that we have that out the way. Are you excited yet? Lol. I truly am! If you could see what God has shown me about this series you would be too. So let’s do this…..

Faith

“Faith” is defined as complete trust in something or someone. As children of God, the expectation is that we have complete faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Anyone that knows Him knows how merciful and powerful He is towards His children. So much so that he covers all our faults. His word talks about it in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. The Word of God says,

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Perhaps you are someone who has struggled with your health mental or physical. Whether it be excess weight, not enough weight, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, swelling, aches, pains, or just the mental anguish of self-portrayal. We have to have Faith in the Word of God. In our weakness, our self-image, our perception of our flaws, our understanding of what a healthy mind, body, and spirit are. We are required to have Faith in Christ in all these instances. We have to believe that in our struggles He is truly our strength not just to endure hardships but to overcome and change the way we perceive them. So in the “Faith” section of this series, we will be building and strengthing our relationship with God. In doing so, Yahweh will serve as the foundation of our journey to obtain optimal spiritual, mental, and physical wellness. In efforts of getting you started in your faith building, there will be a goal for you to focus on and reach for the upcoming week in each section. Some goals will be broad others will be precise.

This week’s “Faith Goal” is to find 1 scripture that requires you to perform an act of obedience to God. It can be anything. There are scriptures that talk about being slow to talk and quick to listen. In the book of Proverbs, you will find scriptures that have instructions about how we ought to live. When we are obedient to God our Faith grows. So find 1 scripture and do what it says ALL WEEK. I’m laughing but very serious.

Time to grow in Faith.

Food

“Food” is defined as any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and growth. You read that right. Nutritious! Maintain LIFE and GROWTH! Makes you think twice about that pizza, french fries, tacos, and ice cream we love so much. I’ve shared in a prior blog that last year I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure. As of recent, I’ve found out that I’m pre-diabetic. See what happens when we aren’t intentional about our health. God gave me that word last year and my disobedience to it has resulted in ailments that could kill me. When we think about food I don’t know too many people that tie it to our relationship with God. I am approaching a year since I started my self-care journey with Yahweh, and in this time He has really given me insight about food. What we choose to feed our bodies naturally is just as important as what we feed our bodies spiritually. The Holy Spirit lives within us so why would we only feed our spirit and allow our physical bodies to be poisoned by foods that will cause a natural death? Makes no sense, right? I believe that when we finally understand that our existence belongs to God. Then we will understand that we have a responsibility to take care of the bodies He LENT us.

Some of you may find comfort in unhealthy foods. Maybe you eat healthy already and “treat” yourself from time to time with a dessert or “cheat meal.” I know I’ve been that person. Don’t you know that eating things that can cause Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes, or High Blood Pressure isn’t comforting? Doesn’t sound like much of treat either. To add to that when was the last time you heard of cheating being a good thing? Lol. Really think about it. We have to allow Yahweh to change our abusive relationship with food.

This week’s “Food Goal” is to replace 1 bad food choice with a healthy food choice every day for the ENTIRE week. Give up something that is killing your physical health and replace it will something that will help your health. This is not a chore. Food can either heal us or kill us. Find excitement in discovering enjoyable healthy options that will give you life. Make sure you’re also adding your food mindsets and struggles into your prayer time with Yahweh. Remember, in our weakness, He is made strong which means we have access to that same strength.

Breakfast Smoothie with 3 handfuls of spinach. 1 cup of frozen unsweetened pineapples and rhubarbs. Unsweetened almond milk.

Fitness

“Fitness” is defined as the condition of being physically fit and healthy. Being a person who was successful in being fit years ago. I know how it feels to love to workout and how it feels to hate working out. Years ago I wanted to go into law enforcement. In order for me to do so, I needed to be able to take the physical exam. I believe at that time it consisted of a mile run under 8 mins, 40 push-ups (timed), 50 or 60 sit-ups (timed), and the sit and reach. At 300 pounds that wasn’t realistic. So I decided to get fit so that I could pursue my then dream to become a cop. It took 11 months but I did it. From 300 plus pounds to about 200 pounds. I was strong. I went from a 45-minute mile to an 8-minute mile. I cried! I killed my numbers for the push-ups and sit-ups. I worked out 6 days a week, twice a day, roughly 4 hours a day. #BeastMode I would like to put a pin right here by saying, “You Don’t Have To Go Do This.” I had a goal and at that time nothing was going to come in between me and that goal. A couple of years later and I chose to not become a cop. In doing so, the weight returned. Present day I needed a new goal. What would be my new motivation for working out?

I’ve found a mixture of two reasons to be motivated to workout. Those being my high blood pressure and pre-diabetic state. The other is understanding that this body isn’t mine to keep. God LENT it to me and I have a responsibility to take care of it. He loves who and what He created. How dare I show my gratitude and appreciation for Him by mistreating the thing He created? What I’m learning about my body is that it’s not mine to do whatever I want with it. It belongs to God. We should all aspire for these bodies of ours to be a strong tower. I mean they do house His Holy Spirit.

This week’s “Fitness Goal” is to spend at least 15-30 mins of some type of exercise for 6 days. You can rest on the 7th day. You can walk on your lunch break at work. You can do a workout video at home. You can dance in your living room. You can clean your house without sitting down. This journey is progressive so starting with 15-30 mins of moving more than what you normally would do is great. Whatever you choose to do make sure it’s something that you actually like to do. Get creative. Make sure you’re adding to your daily prayer that Yahweh changes your mindset of working out. Pray for a spirit that loves to be healthy. Speak it into existence. You know. Faith and Works.

Yes, I own these. No, I didn’t just buy them. No, I’ve never completed any of them. Yes, this is my new fitness goal. Lol. To finish all of these this year one DVD at a time.
