What Is A Christian Holistic Lifestyle?

Great Morning my brother’s and sister’s in Christ. I pray you’ve spent your time living intentionally and with purpose. I missed last week’s Self-Care Sunday post but I’m back. Better than before! Over the last year or so my life has transformed drastically. One area of change has been my understanding of self-care in relation to mind, body, spirit, emotion. I’ve been drawn for a while now to live a Holistic Lifestyle. As I began doing the research I felt it necessary to establish any information I share with you in regard to living a Holistic Lifestyle will come from a Christian point of view. Disclaimer: I meditate and do yoga which has been tied to demonic practices in some instances. This is certainly not that. I won’t be drawing energy from crystals or praying to Mother Earth. When I meditate it’s a time for me to be present, here from the Holy Spirit, and show gratitude to God. Know everything I do is to glorify Jesus Christ. With that being said, I pray my Christian Holistic Lifestyle Journey will inspire you all.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:33-34

So let’s dive into it. What is a Christian Holistic Lifestyle? Living a Christian Holistic Lifestyle means you’ve made a choice to take responsibility for your own well-being and everyday decisions which affect your health. By creating balance in your life in efforts to achieve the highest level of well-being for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health while drawing directly from the Lord.

More often than not we tend to neglect something in our lives. Some of you may be at an optimal level in your physical health but lack the same growth in your spiritual health. You may have a great understanding of your emotional health, but lack the physical discipline to be in shape. A Christian Holistic Lifestyle is focused on you balancing all areas of your life at the same time with the same amount of energy, consistency, determination, and drive. If we’re ever going to reach optimal health we can’t afford for any areas to be neglected in our well-being. Essentially, it’s knowing our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health all work interchangeably in order for us to be the best version of ourselves. Nothing left behind. All needed to add balance to our lives.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2

The base of starting a Christian Holistic Lifestyle is creating a Personal Well-Being Plan. Your personal well-being plan consists of goals to develop and grow the four areas of your overall well-being. Those areas being your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Create an outline and place at least five goals in each area. Once you completed the list of goals carve out 2 hours of your day to complete one goal in each area daily for 30 mins. So you have 4 areas with a range of goals in each area. Choose 1 goal for the day in EACH area and spend 30 mins DAILY on EACH goal. Doing so creates balance in your overall health and ensures all areas of your well-being are closely attended to.

“Put your outdoor work in order
    and get your fields ready;
after that, build your house.” Proverbs 24:27

To give you a jump start on your Personal Well-Being Plan I’ve included examples of goals for the 4 areas of health. Feel free to add some of them to you own plan.

Spiritual

Spiritual

~ Bible Study

~ Prayer

~ Meditation (Attitude of Gratitude)

~ Fellowship with others about God.

~ Seek counsel from your Spiritual Mentor.

Physical

Note: What you eat and getting enough sleep are also a part of your physical health.

~ Walk

~ Do a workout video at home

~ Join a class at your local gym

~ Meal Prep – Eat whole foods rich in nutrients, fiber, and protein.

~ Get enough sleep

Mental

~ Meditation (Taking 30 mins a day to meditate on who God says you are, what your day will look like, and reciting affirmations aids in positive mental health)

~ Seek mentorship or counsel

~ Surround yourself with positive people.

~ Be present (disconnect from social media, work, relationship)

~ Acknowledge your thoughts then decide if you want to be a participant in the feeling (See BLOG here to learn how to acknowledge your feelings without allowing them to run rampant in your life)

Emotional

~ Think before you act (Something I do when I’m emotional is count to 10 before I respond)

~ Write down how you’re feeling instead of acting on the feeling.

~ Read the bible and see if what you’re feeling is a fruit of the spirit of the flesh.

~ Allow yourself the room to be compassionate for you.

~ Don’t allow people or things to negatively decide or alter how you feel.

All in all, God wants us to activate every seed He’s planted on the inside of us. The best version of you already exists and is patiently waiting for you to ignite the fuse to becoming a better you. I say it all the time. Before you can be anything to anyone you have to be everything to yourself. God doesn’t want us to only be focused on growing in Him. We are to also be good stewards over our overall health. How can we ask God to heal our bodies then eat foods causing diseases which can kill us? It makes no sense. We have to be active participants in our wellness journey.

Today, I challenge you to choose LIFE. I challenge you to make a decision to live a Christian Holistic Lifestyle. One which will lead you into becoming the best version of yourself. Remember, our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health is a reflection of the life we chose. You decide the type of life you want to live. Blessings.

  1. Great message, great scripture references, and the disclaimer is on point too…..

      1. Yep, and He’s the ONLY ONE who gives us the power, wisdom, and strength to live holistically healthy lives….3 John 2 is my power verse….

  2. I am always amazed how God answers prayers and sends His guiding light to shine into our lives. This was for me to read right at the moment I read it — on the bus, getting my thoughts together to go forth in the day, asking God to guide and direct my steps in Him and His Word. Without going into a lot of detail, I am saving this post to set the path for the remainder of this year that God is Perfecting New Beginnings in me and my life and the need for ME to walk through each and every door as a healthy, whole person ready to let His light shine through me! TRULY AWESOME POST and Mindful of ME moment!

    1. Thanks so much Sis. This is what living a Christian Holistic Lifestyle is all about. Making a choice to live as a whole person in every area of our lives. I’ll be spending several weeks writing about this in efforts of building of a community of others who are interested in pursuing the same journey. Many blessings to you Sis.

  3. Love this so much! I needed this. My self care has been lacking because I have been real sick for the last year and half. Working on getting back on track.
I also liked your disclaimer, I also have chronic pain and yoga does help me but like you said it’s your time with God. Same here sister. Great post!

  4. I know this so late, but God is so good! God has been leading me towards this journey and I’ve never felt more myself, but it’s such a beautiful thing to know there are other Christian sisters who have been called to live this way but through God, and through anything else. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart for writing this – so grateful! x
